Sgt. Maj. Michael Boyd Stack

Army SGM Michael B. Stack, 48, of Lake City, SC, died on April 11, 2004.

Stack was killed during an ambush to his Humvee convoy.  When two of his unit’s machine guns were damaged during the ambush, Stack’s actions helped the rest of the team survive, earning him the Silver Star.  He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Ft. Campbell, KY.

Stack graduated from South Florence High School in 1974.  He reportedly had family members who served during every war since the American Revolution.
